how affirmations can change your life

yes, I rolled my eyes at them first, too.

If you’d like to read this in post form, click here.

Ok so it took me 18 years to fully realise that the ONE PERSON who is honest to god speaking to me every single second of every single day is my own self: & i used to be a straight up bish to poor lil adri. Your thoughts can propel you dafuq forward or keep you from shining your TRUE QUEEN AF LIGHT.

So they’re worth listening to.

You’ve probably heard of affirmations. Maybe you think they’re fluffy hippy mindset shiz I once did too. They’re basically empowering “I am” statements, but often people feel cringe & confused with as to how to do them, so they avoid them. Hence this post.

So here is a no bullshit blue-print to simply start.

1️⃣ What limits do you define yourself with? What thoughts have you made a part of your identity you know deep down aren’t serving you, but they’re keeping you in the comfortable state of not reeeally having to try? Write these down

2️⃣ Turn those mofos around. Make them the opposite of the story you have told yourself and limited yourself with for years. Make them empower you & feel excited!!!

3️⃣ Write them, speak about them, put them on a sticky in front of your mirror, make them your phone background, whatever works for you.

Here are some of mine/ random examples:

I used to tell myself “I wish I could gym but I don’t belong there, I’m just a tiny girl and everyone is so strong & shredded and they’ll wonder why I’m even in there”

Did it serve me? No. But it kept me in the comfortable state of avoiding the gym & weights section by letting my (unnecessary) fear dictate

Affirmation: I am a confident athlete that deserves and dedicates space & time in the gym because I value my long term physical and mental health/strength

This makes me EXCITED to hit up the gym, even when it can feel intimidating.

I used to tell myself “I don’t know if what I make or write on here is good enough, there are so many people out there doing the same, why would anyone listen to me, I can never make a career out of helping others, I’m not enough of a leader, social media isn’t a job” blah blah.

Did it serve me? No. But it kept me in the comfortable state of dipping my toes in and out of trying hard at this thang so I protected my insecurities.

Affirmation: I create unique content that is inspiring and helps people feel understood, empowered, and less alone.

I am a thoughtful, capable, and inspiring leader that empowers those I work with to believe in their abilities.

This makes me EXCITED to write and create and lead.

I used to tell myself “I’m such a shopaholic & reckless spender, I’ll start saving next month, money is made to be spent”. I had an unhealthy money mindset. Literally up until very little ago.

Did it serve me? No. But it kept me in the comfortable state of not having to check my account, & impulsively satisfy my short term shopping desires.

Affirmation: I am a saver and investor, I think before I spend or purchase, because I prioritise my long term financial freedom and the choices it brings.

This makes me EXCITED to save, think & invest.

Here’s the thing: what will feel emotionally inciting to you will be nothing to another. So the affirmation “I am a strong woman that prioritises my workouts because I love my body & long term health” will be meaningless to me — I already 1000% believe it and act on it. I don’t write that affirmation.

My mom on the other hand has it at the top of her affirmation list. Years of “oh adri, I would workout but I’m just lazy and weak” have kept her in the comfortable state of not having to try because her thoughts have defined herself with this limit. NO MORE MAMA. Soz to call you out lol. Affirming herself of her true potential everyday can change that.

THE WAY YOU SPEAK TO YOURSELF WILL CHANGE YOUR LIFE. START LISTENING.
